Sixteenth Youth Delphic Games of the CIS Member States

From 14 to 18 of October, 2022 the Sixteenth Youth Delphic Games of the CIS Member States were held in Dushanbe, the Republic of Tajikistan. The competitions have become the key event in the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Delphic Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The Sixteenth Youth Delphic Games of the CIS Member States were dedicated to the Year of Folk Art and Cultural Heritage in the CIS Member States, announced by the Decision of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States on December 18, 2020, and are included in the Action Plan on holding the Year of Folk Art and Cultural Heritage in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2022, approved by the Decision of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS on November 12, 2021.

Representatives from 7 Commonwealth countries: the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan – took part in the Sixteenth Youth Delphic Games of the CIS Member States. The delegations of the countries included about 500 young talents aged between 10 and 25.

The Games were held in accordance with the Order of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon dated July 29, 2022 No. RP-242, the Greetings of the head of the state was received.

The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin sent his Greetings to organizers, participants and guests of the Sixteenth Youth Delphic Games of the CIS Member States.

The Games were addressed by greetings of the Chairman of the Executive Committee – the Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergey Lebedev, the Secretary General – the Head of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, the Chair of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States Permanent Commission on Science and Education Lilia Gumerova, the Honorary President of the General Confederation of Trade Unions Mikhail Shmakov, the Executive Director of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States Anatoly Iksanov, the Head of Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation Evgeniy Primakov.

The Sixteenth Youth Delphic Games of the CIS Member States were held under the patronage of the International Delphic Committee (headquartered in Moscow). The organization and holding of the Games were carried out by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan with the support of the Executive Body of the State of Dushanbe, the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the observers of the International Delphic Committee.

On October 15, 2022 the Official Opening Ceremony of the Sixteenth Youth Delphic Games of the CIS Мember States took place in Dushanbe. The presentation of nominations and a parade of delegations were held within the framework of the ceremony. The winners of the Delphic Games of the CIS Member States of previous years and the leading artists of the Republic of Tajikistan demonstrated the high level of art of the Commonwealth countries during the theatrical performance. The Director of the International Delphic Committee Vladimir Ponyavin declared the Games open, the Delphic flame was lit and the Delphic flag was raised.

Competitions were held in 10 nominations: piano, violin, fine arts, academical singing, solo folk singing, pop singing, folk dance, folk instruments, wind instruments, artistic crafts. The best facilities – the National Conservatory of Tajikistan named after Talabkhuja Sattorov, the Tajik State Institute of Culture and Arts named after Mirzo Tursunzade, the Tajik State Institute of Art and Design, etc – were used to carry out the nominations of the Delphic Games in Dushanbe. The international jury consisted of 34 prominent figures of culture and art. 22 sets of medals were bestowed during the Games. According to the results of competitions representatives of 6 countries won gold, silver and bronze medals.

Within the framework of the Sixteenth Youth Delphic Games of the CIS Member States a traditional international conference was held, which was attended by leaders and representatives of the International Delphic Committee, the National Delphic organizations of the countries, the National Commissions for UNESCO, the observers of the International Delphic Committee, authorities and international organizations, as well as teachers and cultural figures of the Commonwealth who arrived to the Games in the delegations – a total of more than 50 people. During the Conference the results of the 20 years of development of the Delphic Games of the CIS Member States were discussed in detail and plans for further joint work were outlined.

A Gala Concert became the final creative event of the Sixteenth Youth Delphic Games of the CIS Member States. It took place on October 17 at the Ayni Opera and Ballet Theatre and provided an opportunity for the gold medal winners of the Games to demonstrate their skills on the leading stage of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Considering the decision of the XXVI meeting of the Council of Heads of State news agencies of the Commonwealth of Independent States dated June 6, 2019, 15 agencies and online resources of CIS countries supported the Games. The events were covered by media of 5 Commonwealth countries and of interstate distribution including 11 television channels, 7 radio stations, print press.
